Lymphoedema treatment
Lymphoedema is due to a backlog of lymphatic fluid in the arm as
a result of damage to some of the small lymphatic channels in the
axilla.
Treatment is provided by an experienced physiotherapist with
special training in lymphoedema management.
Treatment consists of a combination of:
- Exercise
- Elevation
- Compression sleeve - a tightly fitting elastic garment.
- Manual lymphatic massage - a special form of massage of the
affected area that improves flow of lymphatic fluid away from the
affected area.
