Oncoplastic surgery

Fiona is 46 years old. She has recently noticed a change in the shape of her left nipple. She has a sister who was diagnosed with breast cancer at a similar age.

Investigations revealed an invasive cancer in the left breast. Fiona wears an E cup bra. She would prefer to have a smaller C cup breast size.

In women with large breasts it is possible to perform breast conserving surgery using breast reduction techniques. This allows for good clearance of the cancer and produces a pleasing cosmetic result.

Following surgery Fiona was given a course of radiotherapy to the left breast. She is pleased with the result of her surgery and has noticed an improvement in shoulder and neck symptoms.

The left nipple can be reconstructed quite simply in the future if required.
