Sestimibi scan
You are given an injection of a radioactive substance called
Technetium 99 which circulates around the body and is picked up by
active cells including cancer cells.
A scanner can then detect areas of increased activity. It is not
a good method for picking up small tumours.
This technique is not widely used in breast cancer diagnosis and
treatment in New Zealand at present.
